I'm a New York-based journalist with more than 25 years of experience reporting and writing for newspapers, digital outlets, and television. My work centers on politics, government, global issues, and policy.
Most recently, I wrote daily news and features for BET.com, covering national stories with a focus on Black communities. Before that, I was education editor and writer at NewsOne, reporting on schools, students, and educational equity. At Arise TV, I was a senior news scriptwriter and producer for Arise America, writing and producing national and international news segments.
My reporting career began in community newspapers in Florida and Georgia. At The Champion Newspaper in Decatur, I covered the Georgia General Assembly, the courts and religion, and wrote features that earned three Georgia Press Association awards. I also wrote lifestyle, travel, and profile features for Atlanta Goodlife and the Daytona Beach News-Journal.
I understand how stories are made from both sides of the notebook. I've served as communications director for the Luce Foundation, communications associate for U.S. Rep. Edolphus Towns, and consultant to a Georgia state representative. Since 2019, I've run Nigel Roberts Consulting LLC, helping nonprofits tell their stories clearly and work effectively with the press.
I hold a bachelor's degree in political science from The City College of New York, where I received the Kupferman Prize in International Relations, and a master's in political science from the CUNY Graduate Center.
That background shows in my work: disciplined, detail-minded, and grounded in how institutions actually work. I'm available for reported features, news assignments, profiles, and explanatory journalism.
